I often find my latest fascinations stemming from the deep voice of internet culture, more often than not unbeknownst to the real world. It seems to a degree this is what drives internet culture to continue to be somewhat unpredictable, as within internet culture it is felt that once something from itself spreads into the mainstream it is done with, and it is truly time for the next thing to come along. As such there are sites dedicated to watching for what the latest in internet culture are, providing ease of access and a platform for discussion in the process. With social networking in full swing and simple integration between these services and the interwebs it's made internet culture sites even more accessible. In light of this the definition of mainstream seams to have been refined to focus specifically on the mainstream media.

However enough ramblings on the current paradigms of internet culture and onto the point. Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser have once again found their way onto Today's Big Thing this time with a vigorous cover of Guns N' Roses' Welcome to the Jungle. This is not the 2 extremely accomplished cellists have found their way onto Today's Big Thing, with their first professionally produced performance of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal hitting the interwebs at the end of January of this year.

Needless to say with 2/2 great performances that I've seen, I'm very much looking forward to the release of their album,  with a song lineup including Use Somebody, Viva la Vida, Smells like Teen Spirit, and even the Theme from Pulp Fiction it's hard to not be intrigued, if not excited. www.2cellos.com

If you find 2CELLOS a bit too energetic and passionate for you, but still need a cello fix; then might I recommend the likes of Jami Sieber. Also of English origin, her 2004 album Hidden Sky was brought to my attention after one of its tracks (Maenam) featured as one of the most memorable and embracing tracks from Jonathan Blow's Braid, a platform puzzle game released over PSN, XBLA, and Steam. It was the track that got me hooked on the ominous drones of cello-driven ambiance, furthermore enforced through hearing The Book of Eli OST composted by Atticus Ross.

As quite the connoisseur of soundtracks whether film, tv shows, advertising, or video games; I'm glad I found this. Atticus Ross is the relative newbie on the block, especially in my collection among the likes of David Arnold, James Newton Howard, and Michael Giacchino. Ross has definitely broken out of the gates strong with The Book of Eli and The Social Network both doing very well, with the latter winning both a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Score earlier this year.

While "Panoramic", the iconic track from The Book of Eli, continues to be my alarm each morning; Atticus Ross is one to watch on the composing circuit, with such competencies early on in his career you never know whether his next works will be iconic to the point of breaking through into pop and internet culture forever. Just look at Clint Mansell's Lux Æterna, the leitmotif of Requiem for a Dream and subsequently almost used in every trailer known to man.

Regardless, Atticus Ross is up against some hot favorites at the moment so whether or not he makes it in this world or not is yet to be seen, in any case to him I do say to him very well done thus far, and welcome to the jungle.
